And the verdict is.... Fifths Disease!!! (sometimes called Slapped Cheek Disease) One of those (usually) once-in-a-life things that is thankfully less awful for kids than adults. She should not be contagious now that the rash has shown up. Can be bad for pregnant women in their 1st trimester, but not permanently so (can result in an anemic baby, but nothing lasting or that cannot be managed). Thankfully we suspected something of Sabrina on Sunday, so we only attended the first hour of church, and we sat on the couches in the foyer. So we weren't rubbing elbows with anybody there. Phew! So now she can go to school and what not for the duration. The rash may be somewhat itchy, but shouldn't be bad. The obnoxious part is that it may last from 1-6 weeks! And the rash blooms with heat and sunshine, which is why it was so obvious only on her arms, below her sleeves, after afternoon recess! All in all, a decent diagnosis. Hopefully Michael and I have both had it (many people have apparently had it as children without ever noticing. Rash isn't always present), and we'll keep an eye on the cheeks of the other girls just to be safe. via Facebook
