Despite 8 ish inches of snow today there were still around 60 people there for my presentation tonight. it ended up being a lot of fun! Kate came as my helper and got to buy some beautiful rocks at the silent auction afterward. via Facebook

Tonight I'm the guest speaker for the Timpanogos Gem and Mineral Society. I asked last night about how many people usually showed up. I wasn't expecting to hear 50 - 80! Of course, then she said that a lot of the people are senior citizens and the weather makes a big difference on who shows up because a lot of them don't like to drive in bad weather. With this storm going on I have no idea what to expect. 10?! I can handle 10 ;) via Facebook

This is going to be a very interesting sort of afternoon. I asked a girl to bring me my pill sorter, then took the pills in the "Sunday" spot. Easy enough, right? It wasn't until AFTER swallowing them that I realized she'd accidentally brought my my PM sorter, not AM. In all fairness, it has been a LONG time since this mistake has been made. Fortunately half the pills are the same. Unfortunately the other PM pills make me drowsy and are partly for the purpose of improving my sleep (though none are actually "sleeping pills"). I did get my other AM pills, one of which usually makes it difficult for me to sleep... so I guess they get to battle it out and we'll see which one wins! Unfortunately I'm really not doing well, so I'm already sleepy, I think the PM meds have an unfair advantage. via Facebook

Sabrina is telling me all about Arthur the King Jr. She was shocked in their discussions yesterday about civil rights and race division, etc. She really could not figure out why people would be so confused about it. I asked if she knew anybody with a different color of skin. She went through all three darker skinned students at her school before I could get her to remember that she has a cousin with dark skin. In terms of racial interaction and comfort level, I'd say she's doing very well. In terms of remembering names.... well, we'd better keep working on that. At least she didn't have Martin Luther King Jr. pulling any swords from the Lady of the Lake! via Facebook

Gah!!! So my ear infection / sinus infection / migraine combo has reduced to (or started with...and it's still here?) "eustachian tube dysfunction". Feels a lot like an ear infection, but without the nasty infection part (eustachian tube is plugged or, more likely, inflamed, so pressure doesn't equalize properly and you end up wondering at which point your head will actually explode.). So this week i'm on steroid. Steroids and I don't get along well, as they make me really amped up, anxious, jittery. So I have to take something else with it so I don't climb out of my own skin. The problem? That med wore off at 4 am. An hour later here I lie, praying the partial dose I took will magically let me sleep for a couple more hours but still let me function at that point. That ledge of ice above the icicles has got to be a foot thick. There is a snow melt coil thingy there, but it had been so insanely cold that the melted snow immediately clogged and froze. Its practically impossible to get to or front door. I have perfect daughters. *they* are not perfect.. But they are perfect for me. I am so blessed! This afternoon I was putting some lotion on my legs (with an essential oil blend in it to soothe the screaming appendages). Sabrina walked past and asked if I'd like help, then Lizzie joined too. So my ear infections are not better, and has spread to sinus infection as well. I'm to the point of being able to stay awake for only a few hours at a time. Doc gave me a hefty injection and a new antibiotic. If it's not improving in 5 days then we'll have to try another something. Sabrina started throwing up just before we left and threw up several times during my appointment. Sure enough, it's strep. Yay for antibiotics! And zofran. Time for another nap. via Facebook

So, ya know how yesterday was my first day home all alone since the start of Christmas break? last week was various combinations of Kate and/or Lizzie home sick; today Sabrina woke up with a super sore throat and a temperature of 103. What a lovely Monday morning. It is currently -2 with a "feels like" temperature of -17. I slept probably 33 of the last 48 hours and still feel rotten. I'm guessing it's a virus on top of the ear infection that's already being treated (I have just one or two more days of antibiotics). I still have not had full relief from this migraine that started the day after Christmas, though it spends more time being obnoxious than it does making me want to rip my head off. Must be the start of a new year!!! Today is ALSO the first day I've had since the start of Christmas Break where I'm home ALL by myself. Yay for no sick children today!!!!! via Facebook

It is warmer outside right now (11:39pm) than it has been any time in the last several weeks. With high winds too it's no surprise that we're losing icicles like a 7 year old looses teeth (some all at once, some in chunks, and it isn't always pretty). These are the same icicles I photographed the sunrise through this morning. We have a really nasty wind storm going on at the moment and it has poor Ginger (cat) all wound up. Most recently hubs had to remove her from standing on top of our dresser and reaching in to my top drawer (open an inch) fishing out.....top drawer type items. He put her down and closed that drawer, but the second drawer was also slightly ajar. She seems to have given up after falling twice while attempting to stand on her back legs on top of the dresser and her front legs on the edge of the second drawer down. I was feeling hopeful. Kate still had a pretty nasty fever yesterday, but she and Lizzie were both acting pretty happy and normal. Lizzie's fever was gone yesterday, so I sent her off to school today. And now I just had to go pick her up again. Came home and used the thermometer and her temperature is back up to 101.9. Seriously?! I still have yet to have a day to myself since school let off for the holidays! I don't know what these girls have. Nasty fever and a bit of a sore throat (though not really that bad) and occasional chills and exhaustion. Mostly they act normal though. Lizzie was tested for strep just before Christmas and it was negative then and they don't seem nearly sick enough for strep this time. Ugh. via Facebook

Sent two girls off to school this morning, kept one home with an upset tummy. The one at home threw up, then moments later I got a call from one of the school girls. Picked her up and brought her home. Now have two children home, both with fevers. Happy January!
