Lizzie often goes "Narfian" on us. With her hands tucked up like a t-rex and usually hopping everywhere. Narfian has been a Thing in our home for a few years on and off. It usually happens when Lizzie is in a great mood. Then she is a Narfian and hopping all over. I finally asked her to describe a Narfian for me. Kitty ears, kitty paws, tiny little pink nose, huge eyes (like in anime) and hop like a bunny, with huge puffy long tails. I had to write this down because I simply cannot forget the Narfian in our lives. In similar news -- apparently doing the same sort of hand thing (the arms up close to the body and hands flopping over) is called "Deerifying". Deerifying is possible in pretty much all occasions since it only requires weird arms. It often seems to turn into a lot of running into eachother. Really it seems more Kangarooifying that Deerifying, but Kate named it not me. Kids are crazy. Love it! via Facebook

(Shared this personal miracle in church today) Friday evening we went to WalMart for a bit. Lizzie usually helps me get the putt-putts [motorized carts] unplugged / plugged back in and gathers up my purse for me when we're out as a family. She was still gone to the post-5th grade camp, though. I apparently screwed up and left my purse in the cart. Saturday morning I was heading out to pick up my mom to go to orchestra rehearsal, but couldn't find my purse! After 15 minutes of harried searching I realized it might be at the store, so I called. Thanks to an honest person, my purse had been turned in. It still had my ID, credit cards, both dollars, and something I hadn't even thought to panic about yet... Yeah, it would have been a serious pain in the neck to have to deal with a missing driver's license, credit cards, and library card. When I picked up my purse, though, I realized how much more was riding on this simple act of kindness -- I recently had one of my pain management appointments and I'd left my prescriptions in my purse instead of moving them to my safe. I would not have had most of my medications for TWO months. And no, they cannot re-issue those prescriptions. I don't know how I could possibly have survived such severe chronic pain unmanaged for that stretch. You can bet those prescriptions are taken care of now! Thank you, whoever it was that took the minute to turn in my purse. It has meant more to me that you could possibly imagine. via Facebook

[I'm catching up on some things that I ought to remember, and have recently cracked me up] Sabrina had two adjacent teeth removed by the dentist several days back. She was trying to explain how inconvenient it is to have a huge hole in her chompers: "Ya know sometimes when your tongue gets too wet and you have to dry it off? Those are the teeth I always used to wipe my tongue on!" I told her that I prefer my tongue some degree of "wet" and that if my mouth is extra wet I just swallow. Her response: "Oh, yeah. Never thought of that!" ?!?!?!?!?!?! via Facebook

Earlier today Lizzie was telling me something and said "it happened in about 1998...or sometime in the 1900's" Wow. That'll make you feel most of a century older in a hurry!!! via Facebook

We're watching Jurassic Park (the first one). Michael is getting a kick out of comparing me to the woman scientist. Apparently not only is she MY doppelganger (naturally) but apparently her "mischevious smirk" is the exact same as mine (as Sabrina says "Yeah, we've ALL seen that one!"). Then he says it's just like me to say "...then dinosaur eats man and woman inherits the earth!" I sure wish I'd get my royalties. via Facebook

Ah, the joy of sitting downstairs working on editing while a child is doing dishes and suddenly you hear dripping from the vent in the ceiling directly under the sink. Yay for more plumbing fun!!! via Facebook

Sabrina checked out a book about Bigfoot yesterday. This morning I came in to see her deep into research. She had read the book several times and has taken some detailed notes so she can decide if Bigfoot is real or not. Good luck with that, babe! via Facebook

Once upon a time when I was very clever, I did a smart thing. I put together a tray of cut veggies and kept it in the fridge. Just after school and just before dinner I'd pull it out of the fridge so it was handy. My girls (and I!) love fresh veggies, but they are easy to forget or lose track of. When they're so handy when we're most hungry, it's really easy to eat LOTS! So today I finally got back on the veggie-wagon. Kate is thrilled to be prepping all the vegetables and we're all waiting to start crunching. :) via Facebook

I am ridiculously in love with Sonic's lemonberry slush. I have always avoided them because they always seem syrupy sweet to me. After an incredibly hot photo shoot yesterday kate got this slush and said I just *had*to try a taste. I was instantly sold. Is the best semi-frozen strawberry lemonade ever! With real lemon and real berries! It's perfectly tart. ...and now I sound like a commercial, but i just love it that much. And yeah, I'm the lady in the back of the library slurping a slush. Shush yourself, I've got partly frozen strawberries to suck up this straw! via Facebook

I admit, for many years I HATED Father's Day. I didn't have a father who was involved, present, or even seemingly interested in my life starting just before my teenage years. Father's Day was painful. It hurt to see my mom hurt. It hurt to feel left out of the "my dad is the best" celebrations. My dad is a bit more involved again these days, whether for a minute or the long run, time will tell, and that still hurts. BUT, I've learned many other ways I can celebrate the role of men in my life. A brother (well, several, but one in particular) who stepped in to fulfill many things we missed without a father around. Neighbors and church leaders who fulfilled other parts of the role I thought, as a child, would always be filled by my dad. Eventually a father in law who filled further the missing pieces. And, of course, my husband, who makes our home feel full, comforting, and complete for our family. Fathers are important! A father who isn't fulfilling his role (however it is shaped in each individual home) leaves a hole that needs to be filled. Naturally as a part of unique life circumstances, it's complicated, and there are a wide variety of unique situations that can certainly leave long-distance or alternative parenting as the better option. But in my experience, even if it's the best option it can still hurt. I'm grateful for the brothers, uncles, grandfather, neighbors, leaders. friends, and newer (well, in the last 15 years ;) ) relations who have each fulfilled a part of that role in my life. I'm grateful for the involved, present, and very interested father of our daughters who is a support in our family in our own unique circumstances. For those of you who feel more hurt than celebratory today, I hear your pain. Those who have a father to celebrate today, enjoy it. For those men who help fill that gap in people around you, whether you are old, young, single, married, a parent yourself or not, when you uplift and support those around you you are appreciated. For those women who work to fill both roles in parenting: my love and prayers are with you. Thank you, men, for your kindness, efforts, and love to those around you. via Facebook

I'm sure you've all seen the "how to cut watermelon the RIGHT way" video a million times on FB -- the guy who slices a watermelon in half, then into cubes while still in the rind, then dumps the cubes out.... Anyway, I tried that today. And it worked GREAT! Definitely the neatest, fastest way I've ever cubed watermelon before. But the best part? The girls, between bites, have been building Minecraft type creations. If only I'd done that part intentionally I'd have earned today's "cool mom" status ;) via Facebook

Wow, spot on! Though, as a non-coffee drinker, it ought to be more like a good cup of cocoa... or Dr Pepper.

I look AMAZING, yeah?

Any tips / tricks / clever things to know about going to Lagoon? Especially if you've ever dealt with renting a wheelchair and getting around that way. We were given some tickets and are excited to go, but I've only been there once, over a decade ago! And a wheelchair was the furthest thing from my mind back them... via Facebook

June 15, 2015 at 02:09PM Every Guy Thinks He Wants Boys, But Every Guy Is Wrong

When we were expecting baby #3, and since we had our 3 girls, Michael has been asked many times if he wished we had at least one boy. His answer has always been "No! I've got all Daddy's Girls. Why would I want a boy instead?!" They watch superhero cartoons, go shoe shopping, do yard work, lift weights, and more, together. Of course if we had a boy I'm sure we couldn't imagine it any better way either. For us, we appreciate specializing. And I love watching Daddy and His Girls. http://ift.tt/1C9hWt1

Yesterday I took the girls to the Children's Art Festival for 3+ hours, then went on a date with Mr. Hubbs while the girls were at a sleepover. Mr. then went and picked them up this morning (while I got a little more sleep) and I took the squidges to the parade (yay!) while wearing long sleeved shirt buttoned to the top, big sunglasses, long pants, and a baseball hat (not because i was going incognito, but because I was trying to protect my poor burned skin from yesterday). Then I came home and crashed for a little bit, then we went to the carnival for a few hours. Slipped in a 15 minute power crash, THEN I went out to dinner with Sir Hubbs (He was knighted for letting me sleep in) and his parents. So glad to be able to do so many wonderful things with my family! I am paying for it big time with lots of pain, but it was worth it to me. Thank you, daughters and Sir Hubbs (aka Michael) for all you did that made it possible! I love the celebration with the community and the great family activities available with it! via Facebook

Woke up to my phone fried where it plugs in O.O And the power almost totally drained. So Mom (Janet Jensen), if you need to call me, either call on Kate's phone or email / FB message me! (since Michael already knows and I basically only talk to those two people on the phone). I'm madly trying to save all the info to my computer before it finishes dying! via Facebook
