I just made what is probably the ugliest, most fallen apart cake of my baking career since some of my cakes around age 8-10. Perhaps this means I should hide it in the closet and eat it alone? It's an insanely rich, dark, moist chocolate cake with classic chocolate french buttercream frosting. (You know the one, Asplunds.) I neglected to put parchment in the bottom of the pans, though I did grease and dust them. Also, patience is always an issue for me and getting cakes properly cooled. Considering that cake and frosting together contain a full pound of butter, it's much tastier than it looks. via Facebook

On a lighter, happier note: I think I've finally conquered knitting!!! I've picked it up several times over the last dozen years and it's just never quite jived. I finally sat down with a skein of yarn, a pair of knitting needles, YouTube, and some dedication and ta-da!!! By George, I think I've got it! Maybe I can grow up to be like Victoria DeLano Apfed, Tara DeGrey and Suzette Asplund after all! via Facebook

Yesterday morning the students at the junior high were notified that one of the student body members died the previous day. It has been rough on the kids, especially his many close friends as this was a total shock. He was in one of Kate's classes. She didn't know him well, just in passing, but does know several of his close friends well. One thing I found particularly impressive in this difficult situation -- last night Kate was talking with her friends and they decided to wear black dresses to school today in his honor. I asked her this afternoon if anybody else did too and apparently most of the school was quietly wearing black and/or Sunday Best to honor the member of their student body. Clearly he will be missed. via Facebook

Their group is developing a simple-to-use Internet content filter that they are calling "Puri-fi." They are seeking the input of as many people as possible, through a short survey, to determine the importance of various features that they could include in their product. At the end of the survey, you could optionally provide your email address if you are interested in receiving more information after the product is finished.
