Ages ago I created a "game" to play with the girls while Daddy was in Little Caesars picking up a pizza. It has been dubbed "Little Caesar's Math" and is a must-do any time we are there. If we can see how many customers are in the shop, we start with that number. If not, we start with 0. Each person coming in is +1 and each person going out is -1. Tonight we were stopping for Little Caesars for dinner, but we were parked on the wrong side of the parking lot, away from the door. So instead the girls and I played a much faster paced game. Every car driving past us to the right was +1, every car driving past us to the left was -1. Good practice on the number line and recognizing how negative numbers relate to positive numbers! Actually it was pretty fun. Also, we may be lame. via Facebook

I've fallen in love with a 2 year old named Boots (not a monkey), and I nearly wept over the death of a cockroach. Who knows what book I'm listening to today! *sniff sniff* via Facebook

Sabrina, totally out of the blue this afternoon: "You know what would be the hardest part about being a princess?" Me: "What?" Sabrina, concerned expression on her face: "Everybody risking their lives for you." Me: "What would they do that?" Sabrina: "Because they are protecting you!" Me: "Why would that be so hard for you?" Sabrina, looking curiously at me: "Don't you love *everybody*? And it would be so sad for them to be hurt or killed." This is Sabrina in a nutshell. She really does love everybody. \u003C3 via Facebook

June 20, 2013 at 07:16PM Anti-Snoring Device: ZQuiet
Crossing my fingers that this works for me. My whole complicated overnight sleep study showed that when I lie on my back the back of my throat closes up and stops my breathing on average 8-9 times per hour. So a special MAD is recommended. Since it's a fairly mild case of sleep apnea we'd like to avoid the complexities of CPAP. The MAD, however, is a dental device (read: NOT covered by insurance!) and only(!) costs $300 - $500. Basically it's this. Mandibular Advancement Device. If this is a good enough fit for it to work well for me, that's a HUGE savings!!!!

I did a ton (for me) of work today, so Michael drew me a bath tonight with the usual concoction of Epsom salts, baking soda, and essential oils. Sabrina took a bath earlier today, though, and left her scuba gear behind on the edge of my Tilly Stew. via Instagram http://instagram.com/p/ar-0sJBLWt/

(I have not made any comment regarding Father's Day here because I'm lame and ended up needing to sleep most of the day. So we're going to move Father's Day to next week and I'll sacrifice Saturday instead, if necessary, so I can properly celebrate.) via Facebook

Lizzie's birthday is coming up in a couple of days. She wants an artistic theme. Anything related to art and painting and artist supplies. Kate and Sabrina are working on presents for Lizzie. Kate just asked Lizzie: "Who is your favorite painter?" Lizzie (after about 5 seconds of thought): "Georges Seurat!" [\u003C-- pronounced properly] Kate: "What is your favorite painting of his?" Lizzie: "I really like the pointillism he does. Especially 'Sunday Afternoon at the Park' or something like that." [Real name: Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte] Me: [Jaw Dropped and totally impressed] I love our elementary school :) She learned all that there! (Though we have continued some of these discussions at home. Thank goodness for AP Art History back in high school so I feel like I can keep up with my not-yet-4th-grader!) Springville isn't known as the Art City for nothing! via Facebook

KATE IS HOME!!!!!!!!! She just got back from Shadow Mountain (post 5th grade overnight camp). She had an awesome time! She's hardly stopped talking, including while she was in the shower :P Such a relief to this slightly (hahahaha!!!) paranoid mother. via Facebook

Friday I spent too much time outside and got sunburned. The weird thing is that just barely (4 DAYS later!) blisters have appeared! And not even on the worst part of the burn, which has already peeled. O.o I haven't been out much in the sun between then and now either. via Facebook

A couple of days ago we went to the local carnival for Art City Days, Springville's city festival. The girls got to choose a couple of rides to try. This is our first time ever taking them to a carnival. ALL THREE of them wanted to ride "The Zipper". It's a 2 person ride, so I decided to go too. I chose to go with Lizzie because she tends to have the hardest time gathering herself for something even kind of intense. The tall vertical part of the machine rotates around and each individual cage twirls around, head over heels. I was wearing a necklace, but had my hair in 2 braids. Inside the cage part there is a padded lap bar that closes you in, bars on the front part to hold on to, and, of course, is totally enclosed. As soon as the thing started moving I realized that I no longer have the same head for swirly death defying feats such as sitting inside a padded cage moving head first towards asphalt or clouds. Lizzie did a great job. I put one arm around her for most of it so she'd feel more secure (and I would too). As the ride was unloading I said to her "Wow, I almost lost my necklace!" (It got tangled in my braids so it didn't actually fly off.) Lizzie replied with "I almost lost my deep fried oreo." (We got a couple to share earlier that evening. Those things are really yummy!). Then we got off and were asking Kate and Sabrina about their experience. Apparently the first time their cage flipped upside down, Sabrina slipped out from behind the lap bar! She was rattling around in the top part of the cage almost the entire time! She got a little banged up and Kate got a boot to the head. Thank heavens she was okay!!!!! They even had smiles on their startled faces. For the other ride, the girls had wanted to do a smallish rollercoaster. After The Zipper, though, they decided that the carousel sounded safer. On the way home Daddy said "Who wants to do that again next year?!". His question was met by resounding silence. Followed by giggles. Personally I think it worked pretty well. They never want to go on a fancy amusement park ride again! Kate and Lizzie swore to never again attempt such a thing. Sabrina said she will tell her children to never bother because it's way too scary. At least we enjoyed walking around the booths, getting airbrush tattoos, and of course the carousel. :) via Facebook
