Transformers: Age of Extinction was EPIC. I have not seen such a truly plotless movie, ever! We have a great deal of patience for plot holes in movies and accept that many action flicks are good for some great action and a little plot to hold it together. We even enjoyed the previous Transformers movies in their place. Not as grand works of cinematic prowess, but as fun action / childhood character fun. There were just so many *blink* *blink* moments, trying to figure out where something came from. {MODERATE SPOILER WARNING} Like when they go running for a batch of weapons roughly twice their size. Sure, the enemy has guns, but they were way excited to find "small" swords they could mostly lift. Of course, then they discovered the swords were guns too. Because movies. And also: Optimus Prime on a metal fire-breathing dinosaur. Thankfully one very straight laced character suddenly changes personality halfway through and manages to pull a few laughs out. {END of "spoilers"} Finally, the movie was nearly THREE HOURS LONG. And when there's no plot to keep things moving, that's a VERY long movie. On the way home I was looking up the running time, assuming it couldn't have been as long as I thought, when I discovered the ratings. IMDB gave this movie 3 stars out of 5. Rotten Tomatoes gave it one. Seriously. ONE. My suggestion? if you really want to see this movie on the big screen, wait two weeks for it to hit the dollar movie theaters. If you want to see it, but don't care about the screen size, rent it at Redbox. Just don't forget to return it on time. It's not worth the extra charge. via Facebook

We just saw the new Transformers movie (it truly was jaw dropping, for all the wrong reasons, but more on that later, I'm sure) so we're at the mall. I'm sitting in the food court while Michael walks around with the girls for a while. He just sent me a text of the girls' conversation: "First shoes then clothes... or should we do clothes then shoes?" I'm so glad he's their patient daddy, and that I can put my feet up while this happens! via Facebook

The weather is so extremely perfect we have spent the evening out here. We really need some deck furniture! Lizzie is whittling, Kate is cutting paper dolls, and Sabrina (in long jeans and a long sleeved velvet top in the summer) is randomly dancing and singing. Life :-) via Facebook

Lizzie saved up some birthday money and did chores (as mentioned yesterday) to earn money to pay for one month of membership to the "builder's club" on Roblox. I was asking her what the difference would be and how she would use the Robux (in-game money that only members can earn). The first thing on her list? To send some robux to each of her sisters who aren't members so they can't earn it on their own. Then she wants to create a cool hairstyle or something like that and sell it for regular dollars instead of member stuff so anybody can have something new. It makes me very happy to hear that thinking of her sisters and other people comes naturally. I have been a huge beneficiary of her willingness to help others. Meanwhile, Sabrina is here talking about a club she'd like to set up with a couple of neighborhood friends. She was just trying to decide which day of the week they should set aside as "service day" to help other people. Seriously. I wouldn't think to make this stuff up. While I am not a fan of debilitating illness, it has been amazing to see what qualities it has brought out in these girls. I wonder how much of their character development I can put at the feet of something I wouldn't wish on anyone? And how different things might be if I was able to do so much more myself? I'd like to think that I could have instilled some of these tendencies in my children in any case, but I'll admit fully that first, they just have this sort of spirit, and second, our family situation has done a lot to encourage them to think of others because it's just a necessity to keep things running happily. It's one heck of a silver lining! And I'll totally take it. :) via Facebook

Lizzie wanted to earn some money so she has been doing odd jobs for spare change -- sweeping the porch, wiping down the kitchen island, washing windows, cleaning in my bathroom, {tmi} shaving my legs with my electric razor (I can't do it any "normal" way myself any more)... ya know, the "usual" extra chores ;) She says the shaving is good practice for when she is tall enough to mow the lawn. via Facebook

Kate has a friend over this afternoon. They've done each others makeup, had a dance party with Pandora cranked up, and are now watching a movie with lots of squealing / screaming (sometimes it's hard to tell the difference) involved. I just might have a nearly-12-year-old. via Facebook

Me: Lizzie, when you got off-task at school did you have more trouble talking to people around you? or mostly daydreaming and all up in your head? Lizzie: daydreaming and in my head. totally. Me (unsurprised): what do you usually think about when you're off in your head like that? Lizzie: Well, it's most often just metacognition. Me {googling to make sure I'm right about what I think that word means} Lizzie (cont.): .... I like to think about what I'm thinking about and wonder where my thoughts were coming from. Then I finally snap back to class and realize I missed a whole bunch. Well, smarticles certainly aren't the issue. via Facebook

The grill is ideal for low energy (on the cooks part) meal prep. Rough day, but I just served up some red bell pepper and garlic chicken breast with garlic grilled Brussels sprouts and French steak rolls. I bought the chicken already marinated and frozen in BSCB fillets and the washed / prepped bag of Brussels sprouts and container of minced fresh garlic cloves all from Sam's Club. The French Steak Rolls are just our favorite sort of store bought roll, and came from WalMart. Still cheaper than even Little Caesars, and it only took 20 minutes of me mostly sitting in my camp chair in the shade on the deck reading a book. Clean up involves wiping out the wok basket for the grill and burning off the stuff on the grill and running the wire brush over it next time I grill. That's my kind of Sunday dinner! via Facebook

Nice new grill is so worth it! Lizzie wanted carne asada for her birthday and the grill came that very afternoon after a three week wait (grrrr!). Kate and I got the thing moved and put together in time to cook this up for dinner on the grill. Delicious! via Instagram http://ift.tt/1stYib1
