March 28, 2014 at 07:50PM People With Down Syndrome Dance To ‘Happy’ To Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day
I love this video already (highlighting people from every walk of life), and I love how happy every person I've ever met who has down's syndrome. This combination is absolutely cheery :)
March 28, 2014 at 02:08PM I got White - What color are you?
White... that means ALL the colors though, right??? "You are a dreamer, good friend, and a person who strives to do the right thing for the greater good. Some of your friends might think you are a little conventional, but they love you because they know you are considerate of their feelings. You don't mind spending vacation days around the house, but you might venture out as far as the local park."

March 27, 2014 at 04:17PM Mormon young men bring smiles to 36 girls' faces, video reaches thousands
I really loved this :) When I was teaching 4th grade one of my classes (I had two core classes) really struggled. They were hard to manage, there was bullying and lots of cliques. I knew we had to change something. SO I started a project similar to this. I planned to leave the last few minutes of class available and over a period of weeks each student had a chance to come up and sit on my stool in the front of the room. Then other students could raise their hand and as the student in the spotlight called on them they would give a compliment. The first few times it seemed a little awkward, but pretty quickly things got rolling. We continued through the rest of the school year gradually rotating through the class more than once. I never required every student to offer a word, but pretty soon I was seeing that everyone had taken opportunities to give compliments. Some of them were simple "I think your shoes are cool" or "you have good handwriting" to more in depth "you watch for people who need a friend at recess" or "you are a good helper". They started seeing the good in the others around them and in themselves. I had my prep time during that class, so another teacher had this class for the last 45 minutes of the day . She was an experienced teacher of many, many years, and was overwhelmed by the particular mix of students in this class as well. Even she started to see the change. They never were an "easy" class, but there was definitely a change. The "cool" kids started learning how to talk to the "smart" kids, and they learned to interact also with the "shy" kids. As I continued to shift around the seating arrangement I found that the groups worked better together and the kids who had felt left out or bullied were ending up with kids on their side and being included. Seeing the good in others is a very powerful lesson!

Last night I dreamed I was on a cruise. Well, first it was an airplane, but then it was a cruise ship. It did do a couple of nosedives perfectly vertical from the sky, though, and a fair amount of flying. It was handy when it turned from an overnight flight to a longer cruise since there was a thrift shop on board so we could buy things like swimming suits for super cheap. My mom was there, and few other family members, then my hubs and kiddos, my sister's mother in law, 2 cats, and a litter of 4 kittens. Naturally. We flew/floated past hobbit country and I took lots of pictures of the countryside, until my sd card filled up. via Facebook

3rd term report cards are in: all three girls, straight E's (same as straight A's)!!!! That hasn't always been the case, but this term they did it! There's something to be said for being able to follow directions and follow through on a deadline, since that's a pretty major skill set for life! via Facebook

Just filled out the 7th grade registration worksheet with Kate. Wow. And also -- this school has some really cool options! She's planning to do orchestra and 'PE Exploration' which lets them try out a few things that are different from the usual basketball and laps such as archery. She is very excited :) via Facebook

Driving through the neighborhood a few minutes ago I saw the first brush of green and deep red on certain trees. The globe willows seem to be some of the first to get their leaves (the green, of course) and they're dense enough to be able to see the combined green blush across the tips. Yay!!! via Facebook
