Kate had her friend birthday party yesterday. It was lots of fun. Sabrina was chatting about what friends she might want to invite to her party in a few months. (Note: for friend parties we started having the girls just invite two friends and we go do something fun together. So the invite list is short.) Sabrina: Actually, when I have my party I think I'll just think of who the bullies are at school, and I'll invite them. Me: The bullies? Sabrina: Yup! Me: Those are the ones you *want* at your party? Sabrina: Yeah! Because maybe they're unkind because they need friends to pay attention to them. So maybe if I can invite them to my party and they have fun then they will be happy and not be mean any more. Me: Ah, yes. That's a lovely idea. I guess those talks we've had about dealing with bullies have gone well! And classic Sabrina. This girl is delightful. (That is only one element of the bullies discussion we've had, but it's the one that the girls have taken most to heart, and had good experiences with.) via Facebook

Summertime, Friday night. Before 10:30pm. Lights out and I'm the only one still awake. Barely. Add this to the romantic 20 minute stroll through the grocery store with my hunny (the girls at home!) earlier this evening. We are party animals. Livin' on the edge! via Facebook

Shuri tried to check out my bath water and was surprised when it was wet. Later when I was in the tub she got too close again and fell in all the way. A while later foster kitty Paisley did the same thing! via Instagram http://instagram.com/p/cNAI2FBLSp/

Two of our foster kitties have been adopted! Just two more of this batch: Luna: tabby with white (crescent moon shaped mark on the side of her face). When she is comfortable in her home she is a happy, curious, playful kitty. Absolutely beautiful with soft, soft fur! Riley: my little shadow. She likes to carry on conversations with me, especially around bedtime. She also likes to lie down draped around my neck like an elegant, sleek, jet black scarf. She has about 20 bitty white hairs on her chest, but reminds me for all the world of a miniature jaguar. via Facebook

Kate just made homemade mac and cheese for us for lunch from the Williams & Sonoma "Fun Foods" cookbook she got for her birthday. SO yummy! She has also made the from-scratch chicken noodle soup. Totally worth it. The best birthday present ever! (for all of us, not just Kate :)) via Facebook

In case any of you are interested in adopting some awesome cats / kittens: CAWS is running a deal July 19-28. $24 for one or two for $47!!! Every cat has had all shots, been neutered, and is microchipped. We have four kittens we're fostering in our home that are available. They're box trained, LOVE to play, and LOVE to cuddle and do well in our house with three elementary aged kids. via Facebook

I find it amusing when Sabrina tries to say "deaf". She still usually pronounces it "death". Just now one of the kittens wasn't being obedient (what a surprise!) and she said "oh, come on! Are you death?!" Paisley didn't respond, so perhaps we need to watch out for the grim reaper here. via Facebook

I need to get ready for the concert tonight. My sweet girls offered to help. Now I'm sitting in one of my comfy chairs eating dinner while Lizzie and Sabrina each brush through one side of my hair and Kate is using Daddy's hair clippers to trim my leg hair. (I'll let you draw your own conclusion about what that says of the state of my leg hair). Kate just finished and said "you know, that reminds me of mowing the lawn!" via Facebook

Waiting in the Instacare while Michael gets his finger stitched up. He was gardening this morning and using a utility knife to cut lengths of Velcro tape to tie back some runaway tomato plant bits. All of a sudden a shark jumped up put of the soil and used it's mad ninja skills (that's why you probably have never seen a garden shark) to attack innocent bystanders. My brave husband dove in there and valiantly fought off the ninja garden shark. Unfortunately, as he was tossing balloons to all the children of the world the shark rallied for one last attack and cut deeply into the pad of m's finger. Thus, stitches. In lieu of the usual "thanks for saving the world from that dastardly ninja garden shark" flowers, we are asking for donations deposited on our front porch of Dr Pepper. These donations will be used to benefit his wife. via Facebook

The status I posted earlier didn't work :( So here's a recap: I finally had my neurology appointment this afternoon for a nerve conduction study on my arms. I was a little shaken when suddenly I was handed an advanced directives packet and told I could keep my shirt on if I wanted (instead of a gown) but it might get blood on it. O.o (Note to self: Regardless of how simple a procedure sounds, always research it a little in advance to avoid surprises, particularly those involving blood.) Then the doctor came in and spent 30 minutes working over my arms. First he used a cattle prod up and down both of them repeatedly, then he used a fairly small (thank heavens) needle to poke into the various arm muscles and rooted around until a Geiger counter detected radioactive pain. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what it was. End result: the nerves in my arms seem to be functioning properly. No impingement, no carpal tunnel, no dead nerves. Which is pretty much what we expected. Now, though, I am living the aftermath. It feels like they shook up a can of killer bees and set them loose on my arms. One of the needles hit something very tender in my right arm and now it feels like it's got battery acid running through the veins there. My left hand has a monster bruise from a needle. Both hands are just strong enough still to manage to poke keys on my computer. And that's about it. Glad the answers were good. No surgeries, no need to stick with the neurologist. Just means it's another possibility checked off the list. Back to the rheumatologist and the new integrative doctor! via Facebook

A couple of firework pictures I enjoyed from today. I have scads of pictures, but I'm going to sort through them and clean em up a bit, then forget about them, then cover them in good intentions, and eventually throw them somewhere so I feel like they've been given their due. We drove a short way away from our house up a hill and watched fireworks for a bit from there. It was amazing! SO many going up all over the valley! The last picture is a long exposure picture (like the others) but without worrying about holding it in one place. I really kinda like it though. I wonder if that's the pyro fumes talking. via Facebook

That moment at the pediatrician's office when you see this and want to tell everyone over and over that you really ARE a fit parent. This added to the dirty, unbrushed hair, the pen marks all over the hand in question (wart removal), the lousy hair band tangled at three bottom of the youngest one's hair, and yes-- tights worn with flip flops, which isn't hard since there's a hole in the toe. Thank goodness it's summer! via Instagram http://instagram.com/p/bQA0twBLRo/
